The Oakland Lowdown
In partnership with Collective Action Studio, a group of community-engaged artists, we have launched the Oakland Lowdown, a hub in downtown Oakland where we are partnering with artists, students and local journalists on creative ways to produce and circulate local news, facilitating direct connection with community members.
Here are some highlights from our work:
- My Oakland Agenda: surfacing Oaklanders’ priorities for elected officials ahead of the 2022 election.
- Downtown Oakland reporting project: A series exploring the state of downtown Oakland with Oakland North, a project of UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, and The Oaklandside.
- The Downtown Lowdown: a print zine produced in collaboration with residents of supportive housing communities in downtown Oakland.
Tri-C Access Centers
In Cleveland, we are partnering with Cuyahoga Community College’s local Access Centers – neighborhood based hubs operated by the college that offer a range of services and resources to help community members advance their education, careers and lives.
We have launched a noncredit certificate program in community journalism with Tri-C’s Access Centers and plan to host in-person trainings and lead community-based outreach together starting in fall 2024.
