Why Designers Need Better Ethics

A “sustainability provocateur” and Founder of the UnSchool of Disruptive Design, Leyla Acaroglu argues that many designers subscribe to codes of ethics at the level of their membership organizations, like the IDSA, AGDA, IGDA. But she says they have a responsibility to examine their own ethical frameworks, and not abdicate responsibility to people and institutions at the top. She calls for lively open debate about the ethics of the choices designers make.

“When it comes to designing the material and technological world around us, we must demand public ethical considerations by the shapers of our lived experience.”
